The Miller Dowel 1XSR dowel and Dual Bore Drill Bits
have been designed specifically for use in the pre-assembly
of automated flat panel processing of solid wood or
laminated components. These dowels & drill bits
enable shops with CNC or traditional flat panel boring
equipment to utilize the advantages of self-alignment
and clampless assembly that the all-wood Miller Dowel
joinery offers.
The 1XSR is available in two sizes: the 1X version,
for 16 to 19mm (3/8” to 3/4“) stock thicknesses;
and the Mini-XSR version which is ideal for use with
12.5mm (1/2”) stock.
The hardwood dowels are available in Birch, Cherry,
Red Oak and Black Walnut which gives wood shops the
opportunity to blend similar woods or to design combinations
that contrast different species. The Dual Bore Drill
Bits are carbide tipped, precision ground and meet tolerances
of ±.002 inches to satisfy the needs of high
speed equipment. They have a 10mm shank incorporating
a single flat. The drill bits are sold in pairs or separately
in through-bore and edge-bore versions.
Until the introduction of the 1XSR, typical case and
cabinet construction used primarily blind dowels or
specialized screws and fasteners. When a shop uses the
Miller Dowel 1XSR instead of blind dowels there is no
need for clamps to hold a cabinet or case together until
the glue dries – resulting in faster production.
And since the 1XSR is a solid wood fastener it is more
like the composite or wood product into which itís
inserted than any metal fastener – which translates
into good glue adhesion at every point of contact. Plus,
the Miller Dowel will respond to climatic changes more
like the surrounding material than any metal fastener
ever could. And unlike other methods of wood joinery,
the 1XSR can be installed exactly where it is needed
in any wood piece or panel – from the outside.
